NEW YORK - the movie of course .. had everything to pull you to the theatres.. decent star cast.. nice promos... perfect timing....and a good YASH RAJ banner written all over it.
I was looking forward for the movie but again too me its a sort of disappointment.
You cant call the movie good .. neither it is too bad.
The director KABIR KHAN.. i was a fan when i saw KABUL EXPRESS i liked the movie.
With terrorism as a back drop even here , this time the 9/11 twin towes blasts and its prejudices, he came up with a more commercialized flick , prolly many people thought that KABUL EXPRESS was more of a documentary.
With terrorism as a back drop even here , this time the 9/11 twin towes blasts and its prejudices, he came up with a more commercialized flick , prolly many people thought that KABUL EXPRESS was more of a documentary.
So this time what he does is , he tries to make a mystery , then some suspense , then a love triangle , then some terrorism , then some chor-police chase and you get NEW YORK - the movie of course..
The movie starts of with some "childish" college scenes which have been re-repeated over a million times in many different movies in different ways. I am in love with this particular word which is gona catch up real soon with guys as the movie is seen .. TOTAAA!!.. haha..
love saying it again and again..!!
John Abraham the stud ,
Neil Nitin Mukesh - all three of them.. play the geek ,
Katrina - sweet pretty lady and the eye candy.
The movie moves at a real slow place in the first half with some flashback and interrogating scenes IRFAN KHAN being the COP.
(I dont understand this if its a bollywood movie and shot abroad and you have a crime investigation, from out of the world you will always have your friendly neighbour hood.. INDIAN COP who speaks fluent hindi).
Problem with this movie is that it grips ur attention for a while and then loses it by putting some un-necessary emotional scenes and stupid songs couple of times.
John Abraham said it in an interview that NEW YORK- the movie of course.. begins where the movie KHUDA KAY LIYE ends...
Actually he spoke sense.. this movie actually tells about life after 9/11 specially for the muslims living abroad.
But i should mention here where the movie loses its brownie points is the CLIMAX.. i mean a good end makes you forget about the tortured 2.30 mins in any other movie.
But then , though i wasnt tortured , i dint enjoy either and to back it up it had the most pathetic CLIMAX scene which dint help the movie to have a good taste in the audiences minds when they leave out.
Music theres not much to hear except for the " hai junoo" song. And a love making song between john and katrina but u rather see it than hear it. :p
Acting
Neil Nitin Mukhesh - i've been a fan of all three of them since johny gaddar.. nice acting
John Abraham - he's always proven the myth that "models cant act" wrong..superb acting..he potrays flamboyance , anger , frustration.. just perfect!
Irfan Khan - is a superb actor.. he plays the role of a cop with ease and natural acting abilities unlike the other star cast but wat is IRFAN khan without his wise ass perfectly timed dialogues he's been given NONE..!!
Now for the acting skills of my pretty lady Katrina Kaif , all i can say.. she's definitely improved her HINDI.. lol
All in all NEW YORK - the movie of course..is a strict , mediocre .. one time watch.
I would say go for it , smell the popcorns and come u'll have a feel good factor.. lol..
RATINGS: 2.5/5

Seems like you ve been watching too many firang movies these days and thats why you couldnt feast on all this bhelpuri of suspense and love triangle and d chor police chases.. something that the Indian audiences have been craving since the 1960s and something that every Indian film maker keeps in mind before he makes one.. So no errors on Kabir Khan's side I guess..
This trend has slowly been showin a diversion tho coz sum how even we have been corrupted by foreign culture which we conveniently term as "changing attitude" and the audience becoming smarter in their choices... (thats the new reason behind hating the US)
And lets not overlook the brilliant story written by Adi Chopra.. Imagine why the subject of the 9/11 tragedy was nevr made into a movie all des years..? may be film makers lacked d appropriate story to bring it in front of the Indian cinema goers...? And finally wen it came out it must be appreciated rather than seein it jus like another movie and finding faults with it...
Tell me how many of us would know how muslims were tortured (as it is shown in the movie ) by a country which claims to b a super power.. to me it just seemed to be an act of lettin out frustration..
Thankfully the movie was made under d yash raj banner so we got to see a whole lot of new york in the movie some gud song picturisation and commendable acting skills by every1 in d movie..
Lastly, I dun mean to coz any offences to malpani or ny of his readers but its jus dat r diff of opinions betw me n him when it comes to movies and I some how could c new york as more than a movie so dats y the emotional attachment...cheers!
haha.. nikhil.. ye toh blog ke andar blog post ho gaya..
m telling you.. see KHUDA KAY LIYE.. a more matured work.. u'll understand.. my point of view!!
Hey..good review.
But as a blogger, I really wish you would write like a real writer. This is not an sms.
These are just something I want to bring to your notice:-
prolly!!- probably
re-repeated!-god! that's just bad
un-necessary-It's one word. unnecessary
'is a strict , mediocre'- I hope you mean strictly mediocre. And also no space before commas
This is a nice blog, but I can't read an entire entry without flinching.
I understand that you cannot expect perfect english and grammar, because some words and sentences are written according to colloquial language, and that's perfectly fine.
But when you write something and put it on a public domain for people to read, you have some responsibility. If you don't care to proof read and correct your own work, people cannot be expected to care.
Also, 'dint' is not a word.

heyy nancy..!!..
i know.. but this what "u" and not you.. can call a care-free display of my ideas..
i know.. the grammar and punctuations are misplaced at a hell lot of places more than u just mentioned..i 'll try to display it in a more matured way next time..
thanks for your concern.. rilly appreciate.. keep visiting..!!
Hey..thanks for taking my comment in a positive way. I wasn't trying to be a bitch, just wanted to point some stuff out. Thanks:)
@ nancy -
no seriously its actually true.. it strikes me when i am writing my blog entries too but i am always too lazy to proof read or edit or make sure that i am using the correct form of english and grammar and not insulting the language..!!
you took an effort to read my blog so minutely ,i appreciate that..
and no where close to a bitch..lol.. dun worry..! thanks a lot..!!
hmmm...i knw..i m gonna get a lotta bashing frm u..for this...but..really bad review...
firstly i really dint think tht the songs interrupted the movie in any way...
secondly..Tune Jo Na Kaha..is a lot bettah song than..Hai Junnoon...
thirdly....i watched this movie wid a auditorium full of pakistanis and indians..a few bangladeshis even...and....at the end of the movie...i saw....ppl clapping...first time.....in a hindi movie....something i've seen for the first time over here in the States...
also u prolly dint see the movie..properly coz..the love making scene was gripping enuf..
irfan got the case becoz....he spoke the language of the South Asians.....remember the scene in the bar..wer he tells his boss...tht he was needed for the case coz of his accent, which obviously means becoz of his language....
n again...i m so offended only becoz....the thought made me scared that.....only if i was caught like one of those 1200 brown skinned ppl...i wudnt be able to do shit....
to me in no way this was a commercial flick ...it was an eye opener..
lastly it was bettah than khuda ke liye...coz..this has the material to reach out to a lot more ppl...made properly....n promoted well enuf...n for a movie to reach out to a lot more ppl...it also has to be...an entertainer...which khuda ke liye was not...
an also to mention...i m quoting a leading american newspaper...here....
one movie to actually distinguish......myths from the reality....coz....kabir khans extensive research, which was shown in the climax wer john fixed those detonators on every floors of the FBI building...showed us that it was bombs...that were blown at every level of the twin towers....which was the actual reason for the building to collapse the way it did...two planes hitting the top floors cudnt practically, according to the laws of physics coz such a mishap...
Again malu...ur blog is viewed a lot...look at the freagin no. of hits bro....LOL....i just dint want ppl to miss out on this movie...so the clarification....
and again ur opinion matters a lot...thts y...i visit here...almost every day for a new blog....so no offence to u...i love u a lot more than this movie..
hehe tc...n keep up the good work...i m sure we r gonna miss the original malu now...coz....u've been able to grab attention of ppl who prolly dont even knw u...n i respect nancys opinion...so make sure u write...keepin a broad viewership or readership in mind...correct me if i m wrong nancy if thts a wrong word...LOL
@ vikram - just my personal opinion man..
as rightly said new york is an extension of KHUDA KAY LIYE.. because the latter movie is lesser known..people dont understand that new york in front of that is not a good one.. as u can see new york even ignites a hatred towards america and thats totally wrong.. if you see khuda kay liye the person who suffers from the detention and the ordeal that john abraham goes in the movie says that i still love america.. and i cant hate it just because few ppl have done injustice to me..
anyway.. personal opinions..!
yep.. its nice.. that you disagree with me on sometimes atleast.. lol..
but i stick to my review..!!
aurite...fare enuf...i'll watch this movie for u...lol...
n yeah...sometimes...not always...rarely sometimes...i disagree wid u...
