So, 15th august 2009 we celebrate our 62nd year of "independence."
What does independence mean?
not influenced or controlled by others in matters of opinion, conduct, etc.; thinking or acting for oneself: an independent thinker
India got its independence long back. But are we really independent?
Ok fine I know India is a great country. India has diversity and it has variety and it has blah blah blah..
But how has it progressed as a country.
The other day I was discussing how India can never improve.
Ok you are not supposed to brand me as a cynic but its the truth.
What freedom are we talking about?
Freedom from corruption
Freedom from unemployment and recession
Freedom from not having a college even after scoring 95%
Freedom from reservation quotas
Freedom from trying to prove if AJMAL KASAB is a pakistani
Freedom from bombs going off like its diwali
Freedom from insane traffic
Freedom from jam-packed local trains
Freedom from farmers giving up hope
Freedom from the oh-so promising politicians
Freedom from everything that runs this :" money"
I know I am not doing anything myself for the country but I am atleast not doing anything wrong to harm it.
People are dying of breathing these days because of the swine flu.
Instead of providing masks at low cost , we start selling them at 5 times its actual worth.
I've heard this somewhere
"gandhiji apni poori zindagi ahinsa ka paath padhate padhate chale jayege.. aur unke jaane ke baad hamne kya kiya?.. unka photo ahinsa ke sabse bade dushman ke upar chhap diya--- 'paisa' "
India is no doubt a lovely country and even the other countries of the world who consider it as a threat in upcoming years cos sure it is on its way of becoming a super power but still we can bridge that gap of years by working towards making it one.
I know we are lot better than our neighbours and many other countries but mediocrity is not what you want in a country that u live.
So without getting emotional and thinking practically we have too see where we stand and what we are and then chant about the INDEPENDENCE.

development is a process. it takes time...
with so many orthodox around it takes much longer....
being stubborn youths also dosen't help that much..
we'll get there.. jst need to try a lil harder...
When do we really know which problem is ours ? And if the problem is really ours, who is to sort it out ? If we don't have to balls to atleast try to understand the problem, let alone try to address it - we are half way there. Being aloof from the problem is dangerously close to being part of it !
I have very similar views regarding independence. Nice Post.
the kinda mess that india is today ....i too realli cant see how it can be sorted out ....
but the amazin thing is ... with the way india works .. wid all the corruption n all ta u have mentioned above ...it shuld have fallen down long bak ... instead in the global stands .. its growin ...
so may be .. we cant realli se it now ..
but as in bruce almighty he says ,,,
no matter how bad a mess u get urself into .. its never too late to start clearin it off ....
abbe vikram.. told u not to get emotional and be practical..
u cant buy a seat at harvard
u cant go free even if u break speed limit..
u cant bribe the policeman if caught..!
but guess what.. u can do all of dat in INDIA.. so dats wat m sayin..before chanting independence..first look where we are..
tu toh..emotional atyachar shuru kar diya.. mera bharat mahan!..
oh yaa.. dnt even get started abt ajmal kasab.. the whole fuckin world saw him smiling and killing.. on TV.. and u want to give him a fair trial..!..balls!..
Malu, I see how nicely you addressed my post too. =P
i dont think i shud comment because u know what its going to be.
P.S cynic
Malpani Dude,
I think there is one problem ! You have pictured America as you see on the television screen. But lets get real ! There are neither FRIENDS like episodes going on in real life over here nor BayWatch/Wild ON type parties going on !
Its just a beautiful picture we see of the Firangi world from back home in India. Get real man !
I used to just read your blogs and never post comments cause i was always of the same opinion. But i really dont agree to your thoughts on this topic. Vikram kinda made sense to me . I am not over here to debate about anything but just that i couldnt digest some of the things you spoke about INDIA And i would really like to have a healthy argument on this !
Your words " I know I am not doing anything myself for the country but I am atleast not doing anything wrong to harm it " How could you say that you have not harmed the country in any possible way . Com on ! just to start with basics have you ever tried to bribe a cop and you know the list could go very very long . I dont mean to get personal but dude that statement dint go well with me. Look i know i m also not doing anything for the country and i am one those losers who just keep on saying "INDIA KA KUCH NAHI HOGA " But i can never proudly say that i dont harm it .
I read in somewhere in some other topic about the reservation quota stuff . OK just answer me one thing Mithibhai, N.M , Nationals etc etc have respective gujarati, sindhi quota. Now i would like to ask why are these colleges having such quota , why no one protests about it . the reason being so obvious is that they get benefited. Now when a poor(financially poor) chap wants to get an admission the government has reservations in some colleges . WHATS WRONG ? Now you will say that All OBC's are not poor and they just use the certificate to get admission .TRUE !! But also understand the fact if we say India is a secualar country and Unity in Diversity all that shit then why do the premier colleges in Mumbai , Maharashtra (i hope Raj thackrey is reading this :-)) have caste based quotas for their admission ( gujju, sindhi, marwadis )just because of the managements and the trustees ,, Get real man !
Think about it . I hope you reply and also many other people share their views cause i am certainly waiting for some positive posts ! It was not meant to offend anyone . after all These are MY views .
@vaidehi - come on dnt do dis.. i have been waiting for ur comment on dis.. miss patriot!!
@akki - is this really akshay.. or vikram imposing akshay..lol..
anyway.. dats the whole point naa.. i am talking abt system in general ...
who says i support any quota and when i say reservation quotas.. marwardi gujarathi marathi bengali.. and all oder thousand "diverse" religious quotas and even management ones exist..
i dun support any of them..
do they exist abroad.. no naa.. i guess..
give scholarships to students who deserve...have a financial quota depending on the financial background.. y reserve seats..
and again.. talking abt bribing a cop.. can u bribe someone abroad.. no naa.. so dats wat m sayin..!..
aur akshay itna formal mat ban.. m used to ur direct frank opinions.. lol.." healthy discussion" ..hehe
Arre bhaiya not used to this blog thing ! man never know whats on the other persons mind .!
And dude dont tell me if u had got a seat in RGIT or you get a seat in a top MBA college(I hope you do) on you being a marwadi or whatever, you are going to decline the seat REASONING that you dont support this quota system .
I guess we need to get a bit practical . My point to prove in this thing was since we are not getting benefited we just say we dont support it and we are also ready to accept it with open hands if it goes our way. !
Dude and about the cop thing , i was not talking about INDIA in general but was talking about you when you issued the statement that you dont personally harm the country. WE ALL DO IT man !
I just wanted to change your point of view or IMPOSE my point of view !
And there is nothing with vikram , I genuinely believed what he said .
abbe dats also correct..very valid point.. since u are not getting benefitted from it.. u say dun support it..
but if i get into any college because m a marwari..den m willing to fore go it.. only IF.. and dats a huge IF.. the other quotas are scrapped to..and everyone gets a fair deal..!
anyway dats not the point.. the point.. is india still has a long way to go..and the whole " proud to be indian" is much ado about nothing..
yea vikram was correct at his point.. but y did he delete it?..lol..
lets end it here.. hehe
so finally i made a valid point !
And about India progressing .. i accept it has a long way to go .
And no doubt with the corruption levels so high it really has a long way .
And just when i end dis topic , i would like to say that
YOU CAN BUY A SEAT AT HARVARD no big deal ! Money speaks everywhere!
I religiously believe " PAISA BOLTA HAI "
lol.. u gave me a new topic to write on..!!
paisaa!!
hmmmm...this did go a long way..
abt me deleting it..nuin serious..coz after ur ans..which actually was not an answer ..i thot u were js too defensive..in ur reply..so i js dint want to put u on the spot..u knw..
but i still doubt..if u will say no..or n e of us will say no..to something tht benefits us..in a partial way..highly doubt it..i can tell this frm experience..wid u..n in general..
but..funny thing is..u still dint come outright and answer..my question..n akkis question...
DO U REALLY THINK THT U DONT DO ANYTHING TO HARM OUR COUNTRY>?
coz..if u do..its abt time someone pops ur bubble..
lol.. so what?.. y do u have to delete it..
u guys have singled out one line which might or might not be true.. and ignoring the reason y i have written da post...
too difficult to answer or convince or defend over here..
so we shall discuss when we meet 3 dimensionally.. lol..
I agree with Akki to alot of extent.
Just a lil bit of GK for everyone.
India is not what we think it is. In spite of each and every person sucking its blood for their own benefit its doing great. Not like America but like India because it has its own identity.
Ive studied the 5 year plans in school and i see them work. I have studied history of india in school and i see the change.
People are changing, mindsets are changing. Yes its gonna take time but things will shape up.
America developed really fast because alot of things happened with it really fast, being the only super power during world wars, providing gender equality because women were left alone in the houses to manage homes as well as work when their men went to fight the war, culture change, etc. everything. Everything happened at the same time with a very small population. Its easier to control a small amount of population which is driven towards patriotism and development.
On once mentioning India's population being a cause for the slow development someone told me so what about china? and i felt stupid for saying that.
But to think of it... China and Japan are two such countries where nothing is bigger than discipline. They dont speak in front of their bosses at work, elders at home, and government in the country. Which is definitely out of respect. For the whatever games, when they were re doing the country... buildings were moved without asking the residents in the name of redevelopment. If that was done with any of us, how would we react tell me.
We cant compare. Our people are lazy and the government takes advantage. We wont learn to swim till we are the ones drowning. till then we'll keep talking about, how its stupid to learn to swim since i dont live near the sea.
Everyone's tired of blaming the government, and everyones tired of proving how people are equally responsible. Stop talking and just do what you're supposed to do. And yes no one's gonna tell you what, coz somewhere deep down u know whats ur role to play.
Its all well... its going good. When i recently went to Rajasthan i was really proud to see the infrastructure. They're good they're doing their work. Slow .... but doing it.
@malu : I read ur post quite late...
sounds as if m watchin NAYAK part-2..
its vry easy to blame than to bringing a change in it..somewhere down d line v r also responsible for it!!IF U WANT TO CHANGE THE SYSTEM, U HAVE TO BE 'IN' THE SYSTEM!!
i guess the situation aint tat bad...i agree wid akshay n vaidehi...jus see the other side of d coin..things r changing..its gettin better now!!
@vaidehi : nice wat u commented..impresssive!!
